Some of Our Aims

Nurturing Islamic Values

There is a notable vacuum in the field of Islamic nurturing and development. Islam teaches us how to be the best parents, children, siblings, collegues and members of society, however, all too often, we see these values neglected, which becomes a detriment to our community and society as a whole. We aim to change this status quo by fostering the Islamic values of mercy and compassion through our teaching and activities which includes holding weekly majaalis (gatherings) for the community.

Physical Activities

Islam promotes a wholistic development of humans, which includes the spiritual aspect along side the physical. These two are often linked in our daily worship. Examples of this can be found in the 5 pillars of Islam, such as the five daily prayers, which comprise of physical movements alongside the spiritual prayer. We hold regular hikes for the community to increase our appreciation for the world around us while gaining physical and health benefits.

Intellectual Development

Islamic teachings have always placed a profound emphasis on intellectual development, as seen in Islamic history, where muslims were the pioneers in many sciences such as algebra, linguistics and astronomy, amongst other sciences. This is because we are encouraged in the Qur'an many times to think, reflect upon, and understand ourselves and the world we live in. At Aylesbury Muslim Association (AMA), we endevour to revive this tradition of learning through our lessons, discussions and lectures.

Social Cohesion

We aim to restore community cohesion through our regular social events and activities. These gatherings are intended to promote unity, harmony and positive mental health in the community, and to highlight common concerns. In these meetings, we discuss how we can resolve these, such as reducing poverty and providing social environments for adults and children
